Dealing with Burnout - The Steps to Take
"Dealing with burnout" - once you can put a name to it you can do something about it.
So what’s next?
First, understand that you want different outcomes in your life, outcomes that have been evading you for awhile now.
Second, get a basic understanding that you are living a life of ‘too much’. Too much others put on you, too much you put on yourself or just a heavy volume of both. Know that you have many things that are preventing you from living a healthy and balanced life, hindering you from being the best leader or professional that you can be.
Third. Make a major definite decision to change this state of affairs, regardless of what it takes to accomplish it. Read the materials we have provided for you. Absorb them. Take advantage of the programs we offer and the support coaching we provide.
Fourth, move forward. The first step in moving forward is to start. Take that first step. Don’t settle for a lack of anything but success. And keep moving forward. Keep momentum.
Fifth, be open to allowing new ways of thinking and doing into your life. Follow a healthier path. If you continue the work you are doing, find new ways to do it with greater effectiveness. Find out how to deal with stress in ways that are best for you. We have provided assistance to whole organizations in this regard. You can do it too.
These steps will lead you into greater usefulness and accomplishment with less stress. We have the resources available to help you as you are dealing with burnout.
Brian said, “Probably the most important thing you and I have worked on is finding a way for me to feel comfortable being me. This past month, I've made great strides. Thank you, Gary. You're the best.”
“I'm slowly learning to strike a sustainable balance between activity and rest, and I know it will pay off. Thanks for hanging in there and believing in me.” Amy
When it came to stress management in the workplace, James started implementing right away:
“Gary,
A few tiny steps forward:
... Joined a health club this week. I'll start next week. Will work out over lunch. Schedule frees up next week
... Blocked out time for planning prior to leaving for work in the morning. 30 minutes.
... Blocked out time in the evening to wrap up prior to heading home from the office. 15-30 minutes
... Played with the big three todo list. I think it will be helpful to keep things simple.
... Still staying up too late at night as you can tell by this email... this will be a difficult but important habit to break.
Talk to you tomorrow morning. Thanks.”
We have no doubt you can make the changes you need as well. We don't say dealing with burnout will be easy but you can do it. You'll see.
