Personal Values Assessment

Personal values are those things that we are committed to at a very deep level. Values express who we are and what we stand for as an individual. If you want to understand or foster an individual's character growth, you must pay attention to the values they hold important.

Values help us orient ourselves. Like the Pole Star or a compass point, they give us knowledge of where we are and a point from which to continue on.

Even though someone may not have thought much about what their values are, a small cluster of those very values determine how they will handle any number of different situations at work and in leadership.

If there is a gap between your own values and workplace values (those of the organization you work within), it will produce stress. Similarly, if your perception of the circumstances you are facing is in conflict with those values you hold deeply, it's going to produce stress.

Values drive our behavior. Find those positive drivers that move you forward. When what we do and who we are move in alignment, we'll be more engaged, encouraged and motivated. When who we are and what we do are out of sync, we'll be stressed and could become candidates for future burnout.

Each one of us is a unique person. That uniqueness is expressed at any moment by the things that you hold as vital, absolutely important and necessary.

Your values will become apparent when:

a. You purposefully identify them

OR

b. You do something in conflict with those values.

It's better that you take some time to identify values and then orient your life and leadership around them.
